Method
- Remove ground beef from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper if using.
- Place ground beef in a large bowl and sprinkle seasoning mixture evenly over surface. Add worcestershire sauce if using.
- Gently fold seasonings into ground beef using your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 4 inches in diameter and 0.75 inches thick.
- Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent doming during cooking.
- Preheat air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 3-5 minutes.
- Lightly spray air fryer basket with cooking oil. Place patties in basket in a single layer with space between them.
- Cook for 5-6 minutes, then flip patties and cook another 5-6 minutes for medium doneness (160°F internal temperature).
- If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking.
- Remove patties and let rest for 2-3 minutes before serving.
- Optional: Toast buns in air fryer for 1-2 minutes. Assemble burgers with desired toppings and serve immediately.
Notes
Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and juiciness. Don't skip the center indentation - it prevents uneven puffing. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding. Internal temperature should reach 160°F for food safety. Store cooked patties in refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
