  • 1.5 pounds ground beef 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp worcestershire sauce per patty, optional
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for heat
For Serving
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheese optional
  • burger toppings lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, condiments

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Meat thermometer
  • Tongs or spatula

Method

  1. Remove ground beef from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper if using.
  3. Place ground beef in a large bowl and sprinkle seasoning mixture evenly over surface. Add worcestershire sauce if using.
  4. Gently fold seasonings into ground beef using your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  5. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 4 inches in diameter and 0.75 inches thick.
  6. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent doming during cooking.
  7. Preheat air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Lightly spray air fryer basket with cooking oil. Place patties in basket in a single layer with space between them.
  9. Cook for 5-6 minutes, then flip patties and cook another 5-6 minutes for medium doneness (160°F internal temperature).
  10. If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking.
  11. Remove patties and let rest for 2-3 minutes before serving.
  12. Optional: Toast buns in air fryer for 1-2 minutes. Assemble burgers with desired toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and juiciness. Don't skip the center indentation - it prevents uneven puffing. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding. Internal temperature should reach 160°F for food safety. Store cooked patties in refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
