- Generously butter a 9x13 inch glass baking dish.
- Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and spread evenly across the bottom of the prepared dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and milk until completely combined. Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are coated.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly across the top.
- Distribute fresh blackberries randomly across the top, pressing slightly into the cheese.
- Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Remove from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Remove covering and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and center is set.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
Day-old bread works best for optimal texture. Can substitute blackberries with blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries. Add cooked bacon or sausage for extra protein. Freezes well for up to 3 months.
